London Clay Art Centre

664 Dundas Street, London

I teach Adults and Youth at all levels at the London Clay Art Centre throughout the year. Coming up:

Summer 2017:

Clay and Art Camp for Young Teens
Date: July 17 to 21 Monday to Friday
Time: 9am - 4pm
Ages: 11-15
Cost: $285

All levels of experience are welcome! We will try many pottery techniques such as pinching, slab-building, coiling and the potter’s wheel. We will decorate and glaze all of our pieces and then fire them with a food and dishwasher safe glaze.

Each student will create between 6-12 pieces of pottery. Throughout the week we will have fun exploring additional arts-related activities, and projects in other media. The London Clay Art Centre has a back garden plot which will allow us (weather permitting to get some physical activity too! Students should bring a sketchbook (or purchase one for $3.00), a peanut free lunch, light snack and a drink.

Clay and Art Camp: Portfolio Builder
Date: August 21-25
Time: 9am - 4pm
Ages: 14-18
Cost: $285

This camp will be a fun learning experience for older teens who are passionate about art, whether pursuing art as a career or hobby. The course is open to all levels of experience as the projects are open enough to be completed by all levels with the goal of developing skills. A variety of clay techniques will be used, including pinch, coil, slab and wheel throwing and trimming. All of the clay work will be finished by the students using a variety of decorating and finishing techniques, including slips, underglazes and glazes. We may even do a raku or smoke firing, or both!!!  We will also spend some time each day working on the installation of the Canada 150 Mosaic that is being mounted on the exterior of the London Clay Art Centre.

Time will be divided between clay work and projects in other art media, especially non-traditional media, such as recycled art, public art, performance art and more. We will explore concepts like self-expression and development of style, what is beauty, how art affects social change and more. We can talk about life as an artist, portfolio development, art and entrepreneurship, writing for art and more. Bring lunch, snacks, water bottle, a sketchbook and an open mind.
